	ก็	GOR	A connective particle which cannot be translated. Its use is rather complicated and varying but in this passage it is more or less equivalent to a silent conjunction. It is dealt with more fully in Lesson 24.
	วัว	WOO-A	An ox or cow.
	พืช	PEUT	Plants, seedlings.
	อด	ORT	To be short of
	กลายเป็น	GLAI PEN	To become
	กระหาย	GRAHAI	To crave for. In this case “to crave for water” i.e. “to be thirsty”.
	มะพร้าว	MAPRAOU	Coconut
	ต่าง	DTAHNG	In place of. Also means “different”.
	ถึง	TEUNG	To. To reach or arrive at. In this case it means “about”.

Translation.

WHY IS WATER THE THING NECESSARY FOR US?

Water is the thing necessary to life. If we do not have water there will not be anything that has life at all. If the water that we use to eat and bathe every day was all used up we would not have vegetables and fruit and we would not have oxen and fowls that give meat and eggs to use. Animals and plants would die; people would be short of food and we all must die. Our world would become a world free and empty.

We must drink water every day. When we are thirsty sometimes we drink the water of coconuts or eat fruit instead of water.

Before we set out to travel to far places the first thing that we must think about is namely water. When we look for a place to rest in the forest we choose a place near water.
