Pi Zero 2 W: Installation and Setup

First, I installed an OS image, I chose this Raspberry Pi arm64 image as the Pi Zero 2 W has a quad core 64 bit Cortext A-53 (arm8).

After going through a very similar procedure as the set up for the Raspberry Pi Zero W, I decided that this device would become part of my Homelab. The main reason is that I want to run a second Pi-hole to have high availability DNS and adblocking. That will then allow me to do more with my Raspberry Pi 4B which is currently running Pi-hole - without a second Pi-hole the 4B is an important part of my infrastructure and I can't play with it without risking taking DNS offline.

  1. I used this article Create a pihole High Availability setup with 2 pihole instances on Proxmox and Gravity Sync by Florian Muller. (Note I am not running Proxmox).
  2. I followed this article to Install Grafana and Prometheus on my Raspberry Pi 4B
  3. I installed Node Exporter on the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W so I can monitor it; see the section on "Setting up a Device as a Prometheus Node" from Installing Prometheus on the Raspberry Pi.

Now all that is left to do is to adjust the Grafana and Prometheus configuration so that I can see what I want to look at in the dashboard.

And I got a nice case from FLIRC to protect it while it is in my rack.
